Balls, balls will be lost always, little boy,
And no one buys a ball back.

(a) the boy was hurled with grief as he lost his ball
(b) even though he has an other way to come up with the feeling - that is to buy a new ball - he stopped himself from doing it, because,though he gets a new ball his memories are there with the old ball he lost and thus he stands there in grief looking at the pond
