Consider the distance between the initial and final point $x$.

Using the Pythagoras theorem,

$4^2+3^2=x^2$

 $16+9=x^2$

       $25=x^2$

        $x=5 \ Km$

Distance should always be positive.

Distance between the two-person be

$x+x=5+5\\=10$

Hence, distance between the two persons be 10 km
