2 point charges q1 = 2 C and q2 = -1 C are separated by a distance r. then define the position of a third point charge q3 = 1C in the equilibrium on the line passing through the two charges.

Since q1 and q2 are oppositely charged and q2 is smaller . The 3rd charge will be near q2.
Take distance between q2 and q3 as 'x ' and q1 and q3 as 'x+r' and apply net field zero
