just twice as old as Priya will be then. Find the present age of Priya.

let her mother's age be y

current scenario,

4x = y                                                           (1)

20 years later,

2 (x +20) = 20 + y

⇒ 2x + 40 = 20 + y                                     (2)

substituting value of y in (2)

2x + 40 = 20 + y

⇒ 2x + 40 = 20 + 4x

⇒ 2x - 4x = 20 - 40

⇒ -2x = -20

⇒ 2x = 20

⇒ x = 20/2

⇒ x = 10

therefore, the present age of Priya is 10 years
