Given :  Each male employee got pens equal to 5% of the total number of male employees .   Each female employee got pens equal to 20% of the total number of female employees.   Number of pens received by the male employees is the same as the number of pens received by the female employees,  number of male employees exceeds the number of  female employees by 100

To find :   the total number of pens distributed

Solution:

Let say Number of Females  = F

number of male employees exceeds the number of  female employees by 100

=> Number of Males = F + 100

each male employee got pens equal to 5% of the total number of male employees

=> each male employee got pens   = (5/100)(F+100)  = (F + 100)/20

Pens received by male employees = (F + 100)(F + 100)/20

each female employee got pens equal to 20% of the total number of female employees.

=> each Female employee got pens   = (20/100)(F)  = F/5

Pens received by Female employees =  F (F/5)

umber of pens received by the male employees is the same as the number of pens received by the female employees

=> (F + 100)(F + 100)/20  = F (F/5)

=> (F + 100)² = F²  * 4

=> F + 100 = 2F

=> F = 100

Female Employees = 100

Each  got 20 Pens

Total Pens received by Females = 20 * 100  = 2000

Male Employees = 100 + 100 = 200

Each got  =  10 Pens

Total Pens received by Males= 20 * 10 = 2000

total number of pens distributed = 2000 + 2000 = 4000

4000 Pens were distributed
