2. Read the following passage and answer the questions given below:
Amitav Ghosh, Writer: It's perfectly possible. I think about climate change all the time, and ask myself why we
aren't doing as much as we should to mitigate it. The temperature in these last few days in Delhi - 4 degrees
hotter than average - is a climate change impact. We get all worked up over all sorts of things but when we face
this kind of existential threat we are unable to address it. It really does undermine all our assumptions about the
world and any kind of rational society. Only very few places like Holland seem to be approaching a solution while
the entire Anglosphere appears to be diminishing it. There's even a study on how climate change denial has been
shown to be closely linked to the English language. When I drive along the coast in Goa, I see all these people
building closer and closer to the sea, and I think 'don't you understand there's sea-level rise happening and
there's an increase in cyclonic activity in the Arabian Sea?' You're asking if not to be killed, then for your property
to be swept away. But then again Indonesia is a land of volcanoes, many of which are active but people live on
them. Every few years they erupt and many people die; they run away and after some time return. It makes you
think, because our life spans are so short in relation to nature, we're always gambling with it, we think we can get
away with it. At some point the bet runs out.
