Answers
if Question:-
2 sandwiches and 3 croissants costs £11
& 3 sandwiches and 6 croissants costs £19.50. Find the cost of a sandwich.
Find the cost of a croissant.
solution:-
Given:- a) 2 sandwiches and 3 croissants costs £ 11
b) 3 sandwiches and 6 croissants costs
£ 19.50
let, sandwiches be x and
croissants be y
so,now {by question}
=> 2x + 3y = 11 ....... ( 1 )
=> 3x + 6y = 19.50 ...... ( 2 )
To find cost an sandwiches
Multiply eq. ( 1 ) by 2
=> 4x + 6y =22 ..... ( 3 )
Now,
Substract eq. ( 2 ) from eq. ( 3 )
4x + 6y = 22
- ( 3x + 6y = 19.50 )
______________
x = 2.5 or (we can write it as £ 2.5 )
So Now,
put value of y in eq. ( 1 )
=> 2x + 3y = 11
=> 2(2.5) + 3y = 11
=> 5 + 3y = 11
=> 3y = 11 - 5
=> 3y = 6
=> x = 6/3
=> x = 2 or(we can write it as £2 )
Hence cost of one sandwiches and one croissants are £2.5 and £2 respectively.
OR
if Question:-
2 sandwiches and 3 croissants costs £11.3 & sandwiches and 6 croissants costs £19.50. Find the cost of a sandwich.
Find the cost of a croissant.
solution:-
Given:- a) 2 sandwiches and 3 croissants costs £ 11.3
b) sandwiches and 6 croissants costs
£ 19.50
let, sandwiches be x and
croissants be y
so,now {by question}
=> 2x + 3y = 11.3 ....... ( 1 )
=> x + 6y = 19.50 ...... ( 2 )
To find cost an sandwiches
Multiply eq. ( 1 ) by 2
=> 4x + 6y =22.6 ..... ( 3 )
Now,
Substract eq. ( 2 ) from eq. ( 3 )
4x + 6y = 22.6
- ( x + 6y = 19.50 )
______________
3x = 3.1
x = 3.1/3
x = 1.033 or (we can write it as
£1.033 )
So Now,
put value of y in eq. ( 1 )
=> 2x + 3y = 11
=> 2(1.033) + 3y = 11
=> 2.066 + 3y = 11
=> 3y = 11 - 2.066
=> 3y = 8.934
=> x = 8.934/3
=> x = 2.978 or(we can write it as £2.978 )
Hence cost of one sandwiches and one croissants are £3.1 and £2.978 respectively.
