2. Solve the following:
(a) The teacher tells the class that the highest marks obtained by a student in her
class is twice the lowest marks plus 7. The highest score is 87. What is the
lowest score?
(b) In an isosceles triangle, the base angles are equal. The vertex angle is 40°.
What are the base angles of the triangle? (Remember, the sum of three angles of
a triangle is 180°).
(c) Sachin scored twice as many runs as Rahul. Together, their runs fell two short
of a double century. How many runs did each one score?

Answer:

(a) 2x + 7 = 87

2x = 80

x = 40

Lowest marks = 40

(b) 40 + x + x = 180

40 + 2x= 180

2x = 140

x = 70

Base angles = 70

(c) Runs by Rahul = x

Runs by Sachin = 2x

Partnership = 198

x + 2x = 198

3x = 198

x = 66

Runs by Rahul = 66

Runs by Sachin = 132

Hope it helps

Answer:

a- let the lowest marks be X

the highest marks = 5 × X + 7

highest marks = 87

therefore find the X by putting the value 87 = 5×X+7

by doing this you will get the lowest marks means x

b - the vertex angle of an isosceles triangle is 40°

the sum of the all angles in the isosceles triangle equals to 180°

therefore subtract 40° from 180°

and then divide the answer with 2 .

you will get the base angles.

c-Sachin scored twice run then Rahul

let the run done by Rahul x

therefore Sachin's run = 2×X

if we add both of their runs it will feel shot to of a double century means 200 - 2

therefore 198 = 2X + X

if you find X you will gate Rahul's run and then you multiply it with 2 then you will get Sachin's run.
