Compare x² - 7x + 12 = 0 with ax² + bx + c = 0,
a = 1 , b = -7 , c = 12
discreaminant ( D ) = b² - 4ac
D = ( -7 )² - 4 × 1 × 12
= 49 - 48
= 1
Quadratic formula :
x = ( -b ± √D )/2a
x = [ - ( -7 ) ± √1 ]/( 2 × 1 )
x = ( 7 ± 1 )/2
Therefore ,
x = ( 7 + 1 )/2 or x = ( 7 -1 )/2
x = 8/2 or x = 6/2
x = 4 or x = 3
