Shadows are nothing but the part that doesn't receives light and therefore, are black in colour. They are formed because of 'Rectilinear Propagation of Light'. Now what is this? It is a property of light that states that Light always travels in a straight line. So when an opaque object or material blocks the path of light, shadows are formed.
