Friction is a force that resists the relative motion between two objects or materials. The causes of this resistive force are molecular adhesion, surfaceroughness, and deformations. Adhesion is the molecular force resulting when two materials are brought into close contact with each other.

Answer:

Friction is caused by interlocking between two surfaces . Even the smoothest surfaces have some irregularities in them and these irregularities of two surfaces interlock into each other and create friction . Larger the irregularities more is the friction. The force of friction is more on rough surfaces .
