Answer:

331.03 m/s

Explanation:

Given :

  • Distance between the two walls = 480 metres

  • Time taken to hear the echo = 2.9 seconds

To find :

  • Speed of the sound in the above case

Here distance will be double the distance between the wall and the students as the echo has to go and again come back

Distance = 2×480

Distance = 960 metres

Time taken = 2.9 seconds

Speed = distance / time

Speed = 960/2.9

Speed = 331.03 m/s

The speed of the sound in the above case is equal to 331.03 m/s

AnswEr :

Given that distance of student A from wall is 480 m. Echo heard after 2.9 seconds.

We have to find speed of sound.

Here we have,

➡ Distance (d) = 480 m [B/w student & wall]

➡ Time (t) = 2.9 s

➡ Speed of sound = ?

Concept :

↗ Speed of object is defined by the division of distance & time taken.

Speed = Distance/Time [s = d/t]

Now as the echo has to be heard, so that will have to travel the same distance twice.

→ Distance = 2 × 480

Distance = 960 m

So using that formula :-

Speed = Distance/Time

Substituting values,

→ Speed = 960/2.9

→ Speed = 331.03

Speed = 331.03 m/s

Speed of sound = 331.03 m/s [Answer]
