Let the number be x,

According to the Question,

2 subracted from 1/4th of x = 1

Writing as an equation,

 (\frac{1}{4} \times x) - 2 = 1 \\ \\ \frac{x}{4} - 2 = 1 \\ \\ \frac{x}{4} = 1 + 2 \\ \\ \frac{x}{4} = 3 \\ \\ x = 3 \times 4 \\ \\ x = 12
