2) Sum of the present ages of Manish and Savita is 31. Manish's age 3 years ago was 4
times the age of Savita. Find their present ages.

Let the present ages of Manish and Savita be x and y respectively

x + y = 31.........(1)

4(x-3)= y-3

4x -12 = y-3

4x-y = 9.........(2)

from eqn 1 and 2

5x = 40

x = 8

and y = 31-8 = 23

y =23

Thus, their present ages is

Manish = 8 yrs

Savita = 23 yrs
