2. The ages (in years) of Varun and Tanuj are in the ratio 5:7. If Varun was 9 years older and
Tamus 9 years younger, the age of Varun would have been twice the age of Tanuj. Find the
present age of Varun and Tanuj.
[Hint: 5x + 9 = 2(7x - 9), where 5x and 7x are Varun's and Tanuj's age respectively​

as given let the age of varun and tanuj be 5x and 7x respectively.

if we would make varun 9 years older so the age of varun =5x+9

and if we would make tanuj 9 years younger so the age of tanuj =7x-9 .

according to the question

5x+9 =2(7x-9)

5x+9 =14x-18

5x-14x=-18-9

-9x=-27

9x=27

x=27/9

x=3

so the age of varun =5x=5×3=15

and age of tanuj =7x=7×3= 21
