distance from the beach umbrella to a point of tangency is 8 meters.

To Find : What is the radius of the circular swimming pool ​

Solution:

Let say radius of the circular swimming pool ​ = r  m

Then distance of beach umbrella from center of swimming pool = r + 4 m

as  The beach umbrella is put up 4 meters from the edge of circular swimming pool.

distance from the beach umbrella to a point of tangency is 8 meters.

Using Pythagoras theorem

(r + 4)²  = 8² + r²

=> r² + 16 + 8r  = 64 + r²

=> 8r  = 48

=> r =  6

 radius of the circular swimming pool ​ = 6 m
