Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

The length of minutes hand of a clock is 5 cm

To find :-

Find the speed of the minute hand ?

Solution :-

Given that

The length of minutes hand of a clock = 5 cm

Radius of the clock = 5 cm

The distance covered for one rotation of the minute hand

= Circumference of the circular clock

= 2πr units

=2×(22/7)×5 cm

=> (2×22×5)/7 cm

=> 220/7 cm

=> 31.42 cm

Total distance = 31.42 cm

The minute hand rotates the clock in 60 minutes

=> 60×60 seconds = 3600 seconds

We know that

Distance = Speed×time

=> Speed = Distance / Time

Linear speed of the minute hand

=> 31.42/3600 cm/sec

=> (3142/100)/3600

=> 3142/360000

=> 0.0087277...

=> 0.00873 cm / sec

And the angle covers in one rotation = 360°

Angular Speed of the minute hand

=> 360°/3600sec

=> 1/10 degree/sec

=> 0.1 degree/sec

Answer:-

The linear speed of the minute hand is

0.00873 cm /sec

The angular Speed of the minute hand is 0.1 degree/sec

Used formulae:-

  • Distance = Speed×time
  • Circumference of the circle = 2πr units
  • π = 22/7
