Given;

Refractive index of medium x with respect to medium y , μ(xy) = 2/3

Refractive index of medium y with respect to medium z, μ(yz) = 4/3.

Refractive index of medium z with respect to medium x,

μ(zx) = μ(z)/μ(x) = (μz/μy)x(μy/μx).

μ(zx) = \frac{1}{u_{yz} }x\frac{1}{u_{xy} }

μ(zx) = \frac{1}{4/3}x\frac{1}{2/3}

μ(zx) = \frac{3}{4}x\frac{3}{2}

μ(zx) = \frac{9}{8}.

Refractive index of medium z with respect to medium x will be 9/8
