2. The rod shown in Figure P2 is 3 m long with a diameter of 9 mm and is made with aluminium. (Take αAl to be 23.2 x 10-6/oC, and EAl to be 75 GPa). Assuming that no residual stress exists in the rod, determine: A. the temperature rise that will cause the rod to just touch the wall at B without introducing any stresses in the rod. B. the maximum rise in temperature allowed if the maximum stress due to the thermal effect is not to exceed 250 MPa in the rod, starting with the rod as shown in Figure P2.
