QUESTION✪:-

The root of x² + kx + k = 0 are real and equal, find k.

ANSWER✪:-

x² + kx + k = 0

it is in the form of ax² + bx + c = 0

here ,

  • a = 1
  • b = k
  • c = k

Given that ,

the roots of the equations are real and equal

so,

➠∆ = 0

➠b² - 4ac = 0 [∆=b² - 4ac ]

➠k² - 4(1)(k) = 0

➠k² - 4k = 0

➠k² = 4k

\boxed{\sf{k = 4}}

sub/: k=4 in the equation ,

➠x² + kx + k = 0

➠x² + (4)x +4 = 0

\boxed{\sf{x² + 4x +4 = 0}}

TYPES OF ROOTS OF THE EQUATION :

( based on ∆ value and nature )

There are three types

  • Real and Equal roots ( ∆ = 0)
  • Real and Unequal roots ( ∆ >0 )
  • imaginary roots ( ∆<0 )
