Let the required number be x.

=>5/7=x

=>5x, 7x

So ATQ,

=>5x+7x=120

=>12x=120

=>x=120/12

=>x=10

5x=5*10=50

7x=7*10=70

THE NUMBERS ARE 50 AND 70

Let the rationale between two numbers be x

The ratio of two numbers is 5:7.

Thus the two numbers are 5x and 7x

Their sum is 120, The sum of two numbers

5x + 7x = 120

12x = 120

x = 120/12

x = 10

The rationale is 10, hence the two numbers are:

Smaller number 5x = 5 × 10 = 50

Larger number 7x = 7 × 10 = 70

The two numbers are 50 and 70

Answer the smaller number is 50

Now checking the correctness of answer by taking the sum of derived numbers

50 + 70 = 120

120 = 120
