  • Average electricity used is 82 units
  • January and April are the months on which the usage was more than the average

GIVEN

Electricity used in -

January = 85

February = 90

march = 75

April = 82

may = 78

TO FIND

  • Average of electricity used
  • Months in which usage is more than the average.

SOLUTION:

We can simply solve the problem as under -

To calculate the average of units of electricity used we need to take out the arithmetic mean of the electricity used in the specified months.

Arithmetic mean = sum of values/total number of values

putting the values in the above formula we have,

Arithmetic \:  mean  =  \frac{85 + 90 + 75 + 82 + 78}{5}

=

 \frac{410}{5}

= 82

So, Average electricity used is 82 units

Since, 90 and 85 are greater than 82

Therefore, January and April are the months on which the usage was more than the average
