Answer:

2 and 5 are the two numbers.

Step-by-step explanation:

Question :

  • Two numbers differ by 3. The sum of twice the smaller number and thrice the greater number is 19. Find the number.

Solution :

Two numbers differ be 3 :

Let the first number be x, then the second number will be x + 3.

Sum of twice the smaller number and thrice the greater number is 19 :

2(x) + 3(x + 3) = 19

2x + 3x + 9 = 19

5x + 9 = 19

5x = 19 - 9

5x = 10

x = 2

The two numbers are :

The smaller number (x) = 2

The greater number (x + 3) = 2 + 3 = 5

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the no. be X and Y

first equation,

X -Y = 3

Second equation,

2X + 3Y = 19

from equation no. 1 ,

X= 3+Y

Put this value of X in equation no. 2

2(3+Y) + 3Y = 19

6+2Y + 3Y = 19

6+ 5Y = 19

5Y= 19-6

5Y = 13

Y= 13÷5

Y = 2.6

Put this value of Y in equation no. 1

X-Y= 3

X - 13/5 = 3

X = 13/5+3

taking lcm

X= 28/5
