2. Two blocks of masses 1 kg and 2 kg are
connected with massless spring as shown. If the
acceleration of 1 kg block is 1 m/s towards right
then the acceleration of 2 kg block is
(1) 1 m/s2
(2) 3 m/s2
(3) 4 m/s2

Answer:-

(3) Acceleration of 2Kg mass = 2m/s²

explanation:-

  • Two masses of 1Kg and 2Kg connected by a spring

  • When 5N force is applied on 2Kg mass, the 1Kg mass experience acceleration of 1m/s²

calculation:-

Let F be the tensile force developed in the spring due to extension. And let a be the acceleration of 2Kg mass.

By applying Newton's Second Law on the 1 Kg mass, we get

F = 1Kg x 1 m/s²

⇒ F = 1 N

acceleration:-

By applying Newton's Second Law on the 2 Kg mass, we get

5 - F = 2 x a

⇒ 5 - 1 = 2a

⇒ 4 = 2a

⇒ a = 2 m/s²
