               Poverty Influences Democracy Adversely

Poverty is the biggest hurdle to democracy. Any country without eliminating poverty, can’t achieve all its democratic objectives. Poverty undermines democracy in many ways.  

Poor people may compromise their right to vote under the influence of poverty. They may give their votes to undeserving political party in return for the money they receive from such parties or political leaders. This will beat the purposes of democracy.  

In the presence of poverty, political parties may influence government making by giving short-term financial gain, which may be dangerous for the nation in the long run.  

Poverty does not let the poor enjoy basic rights offered in democracy. The rich people by using their money power enjoy these rights and privileges more than the poor people.  

Poor people can’t use their right to constitutional remedies as it requires considerable amount of expenses in the form of hiring lawyers, etc. So, poverty is a kind of virus for democracy. It must be wiped away in order to achieve true democratic goals for people.
