Using partial quotients, 780 is the best choice for the first number to subtract in the division problem 858 divided 26

Given :  Division problem 858 divided 26

To Find : Using partial quotients, which would be the best choice for the first number to subtract in the division problem

Solution:

858 divided 26

26 x 10 = 260

26 x 20 = 520

26 x 30 = 780

26 x 40 = 1040

1040 is greater than 858

Hence 780 is the  best choice for the first number to subtract

26 x 30 = 780

858 - 780  =  78

26 x 3 = 78

Hence Quotient is 30 + 3 = 33

Correct answer is D)  780

604 ÷ 5

5 x 100 = 500

604 - 500  = 104

5 x 20 = 100

104 - 100 = 4

4 < 5 Hence Remainder

Quotient is  100 + 20  = 120

Remainder = 4

Using partial quotients to solve 604 ÷ 5,  500 is the best choice for the first number to be subtracted from 604

Using partial quotients, 780 is the best choice for the first number to subtract in the division problem 858 divided 26
