2. We already know the rule for the pattern of letters L, C and F. Some of the letters from Q.1 (given above) give us the same rule as that given by L. Which are these? The letter ‘T’ and ‘V’ that has pattern 2n, since 2 matchsticks are used in all these letters.

Hypotenuse2 = Base2 + Perpendicular2

c2 = a2+b2

b2=c2-a2

b2=52-42 = 25-16 = 9

b = √9 = 3

Now, area of the triangle,

A = ½ b x h

Here, perpendicular is the height of the triangle.

Hence,

Area = ½ x 4 x 3 = 2 x 3 = 6cm2
