At first, to Mr.Oliver the faceless boy 'appeared' to be a normal hostel boy who is out after dark and is crying in the woods, he feels concerned and a bit nervous by the strange sound of his weeping but definitely not afraid but when he actually sees the boy he finds him faceless which fills him with terror so the boy who appeared to have a face in the dark did not have a face when veiwed in light
