The constituency in which the seats are reserve for the weaker sections – scheduled castes(Sc) and scheduled tribes (ST) based on the size of their population are called a reserved constituency.

Reserved constituency is necessary, because the weaker sections ( scheduled castes(Sc) and scheduled tribes (ST) )may not have the required contacts, education and other resources required to contest and win elections against others.
