She was a poet, feminist, political activist and the Indian national congress first Indian woman president.

She was also known as "the nightingale of India."

She was drawn to Mahatma Gandhi's non-cooperation movement and India's Congress movement after her experience in the suffragist campaign.

Along with that, she has also had an active literary life.
