There are various types of elections in our country to be clear first . Each and every election take place in different phases and time. We have a bicameral legislature. The elections comprise of the Lok Sabha or the union legislative assembly Vidhan sabha elections pertaining to state legislative assembly. Here the people of the nation (India) have the direct right to vote and select the MPs or MLAs according to adult franchise. Then let's go on to Rajya sabha. The MPs in Rajya sabha are elected by the elected members of the lower house of the parliament and not directly by the people of the nation.there are also various kinds of rural elections which comprise of panchayats in which the headman of the village is elected.therefore the election of panchayat is limited exclusive to a particular village or a small group of village.
Finally coming to the election of president.since the framers of the Constitution wanted the presidential election to be a dignified affair the direct citizens of india are not allowed to vote. So they had set up an Electoral college comprising members of both the house of parliament to elect the suitable candidate.
There are also several more such as municipal elections where people of locality cast the vote.
Since ours is the most longest written constitution our country is always perennialy in an election mood whether the union or state
