2. When a copper object is exposed to moist air for a long time, then a green coating is
formed on its surface.
(a) What is the material of the green coating?
(b) State whether the green coating is acidic or basic.
3. Sodium metal reacts vigorously with water.
(a) Name the gas evolved when sodium reacts with water.
(b) State whether the solution formed by the reaction of sodium with water is acidic
or basic.
4. Why are metals used for making bells?
5. Why is phosphorous kept under water?
6. Why is iron not deposited over a copper plate when the copper plate is dipped in iron
sulphate solution?

Answer:

2.(a) The material of green coating is copper carbonate.

(b)Green coating is amphoteric in nature It may be basic at most of the times.

3. (a)the gas evolved when sodium reacts with water is hydrogen .

(b) the solution formed by the reaction of sodium and water will be the solution of sodium hydroxide which is basic in nature.

4.metals are used for making Bells because they are sonorous in nature and produce sound on striking on them.

5. Phosphorus is highly reactive in nature as it reacts with moist air and ignite at 30 degree centigrade only such that it is kept under water to avoid the contact with air .

6.iron is not deposited over the copper plate because it isless reactive in nature than copper show the displacement reaction does not happen and the iron does not displaces copper.
