When deforming force is applied body beyond its elastic limit, it does not return to its original configuration after removal of the force, the body is said to acquire Permanent Breaking stress.

  • The distortion that remains in the material after the applied tension is withdrawn is known as a permanent set. The elastic limit is the maximum stress that a material can withstand while remaining elastic.
  • The loading behaviour will keep the same slope, but because it has acquired permanently break, it will now have a strain even when all applied force is withdrawn.
