The answer would depend upon the man and it would depend upon how he felt about the job. From personal experience I have been laid off or terminated from several jobs and while it was initially an inconvenience and somewhat upsetting, I can honestly state that I have never lost a job that I liked. Nor has losing a job been a serious career impediment for me.
If the man doesn't have a great deal of motivation or doesn't possess a number of skill sets. the loss of a job can be serious blow to his ego and to his psyche. However, if he has sufficient savings, a great deal of confidence and is willing to network, the loss of a job is a minor setback. if it's even a setback at all.
