Gessler very often? One could not go to Mr. Gessler's shop very often and the reason was his excellent ability to make excellent and everlasting boots. His boots lasted terribly, having something beyond the temporary as if some essence of boot stitched into them.

This is the story "Mr. Tallent's Ghost" written by Mary Webb.
- The first narrator met Mr. Tallent in 1906 in the late summer, in a small lonely inn at the top of a mountain.
- The narrator saw him hastening down a long road that had no side streets leading out of it.
- Although Mr. Tallent was not a good writer after his death he expected Mr. Johnson who was a journalist to read a boxful of his manuscripts left behind and decide which one was worth publishing.
