I love the high and late-middle ages. The way the Mongols ran their empire was amazing. Chinggis Khan is one of the most fascinating rulers to study. Especially about how he and his armies went to conquer land. They would approach the city, give leaders the option to allow the Mongols to come in and make improvements for tax money, or they could refuse and be annihilated by the army. God only knows what they'd be today if the plague didn't wipe them out.

The Islamic dynasty was cool to study too. In college I had the choice of taking what seemed to be a boring world history course (1200-1800) with a cool professor vs. a cool war themed modern history (1900+) course with a bad one. I choose the 1200-1800. Best decision ever.
