A desert is a region with hot & dry climate, little or low rainfall (less than 25 cm.),barren landscape, scarcity of water & dry soil. ... That's why very few people live in/on the margins of deserts. Animal life is also limited, though rich in some pockets.

Explanation:

A desert is a region with hot & dry climate, little or low rainfall (less than 25 cm.),barren landscape, scarcity of water & dry soil. There is little or no vegetation. Plants appear only after rainfall, are seasonal & short-living.Dust storms & shifting dunes may be hazardous.

In other words conditions are not suitable for human habitations. That's why very few people live in/on the margins of deserts.Animal life is also limited, though rich in some pockets.
