This health cycle is strange but true. New generation nowadays is getting more technologies and facilities which makes them more comfortable. This reduces the chances of physical work. People nowadays have more facilities like toasters, irrigation and weeding machines, etc. which helps them so much that they don't need to do a bit of physical work which their ancestors used to in the past as they did not have such facilities earlier.

So, more physical work leads to better health and thus you know why the strange health cycle was made in the story.
