The substances in a mixture are separated by the differences in their physical properties, such as their particle size. The more different the properties are, the easier it is to separate the substances. Tea leaves do not dissolve in water, so you can use a strainer to FILTER them.
Mixtures of liquids with reasonably different boiling points can also be separated by distillation. Solutions with several components can be separated by paper or thin-layer chromatography. Gas chromatography and column chromatography are also used to separate the components of a solution.
