SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

Write the following sets by rule method :

(i) A= { 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 }

(ii) C = { 1, 4, 9, 16, 25 }

CONCEPT TO BE IMPLEMENTED

SET :

A set is a well defined collection of distinct objects of our perception or of our thought to be conceived as a whole

Representation of Set :

A set can be represented in following ways

(i) Statement form method

(ii) Roster or tabular form method

(iii) Rule or set builder form method

EVALUATION

ANSWER TO QUESTION : (i)

Here the given set is

A= { 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 }

We know that 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 are the prime numbers less than 12

Hence the required set is

A = { n : n is prime number less than 12 }

ANSWER TO QUESTION : (ii)

Here the given set is

C = { 1, 4, 9, 16, 25 }

Now

1 = 1²

4 = 2²

9 = 3²

16 = 4²

25 = 5²

Thus the required set is

C = { n² : n ∈ N and 1 ≤ n ≤ 5 }
