Solution »

(2 + x) (7 - x) / (15 - x) (4 + x) = 1

⇒ (2 + x) (7 - x) = (15 - x) (4 + x)

【Transposition】

⇒ 14 - 2x + 7x - x² = 60 + 15x - 4x - x²

【∵ - x² = - x² ⇒ - x² + x² = 0】

⇒ 14 + 5x = 60 + 11x

⇒ 5x - 11x = 60 - 14

⇒ - 6x = 46

⇒ x = (- 46 / 6)

⇒ x = (- 23 / 3)

⇒ x = (- 7) whole 2 / 3

⇒ x = - 7.66...

Hence, the value of x = (- 7) whole 2 / 3

Transposition » The process of tranferring a number or value from one side to another side and the sign get's changed.
