(x + 8)(x - 10) =  {x}^{2}  - 2x - 80

note that,

(x +2 y)(x - y) =  {x}^{2}  - xy +2 xy -  2{y}^{2}

The identity we are using is (x+y)(x+z)=x^2 + (y+z)x + (yz)

In this case... x^2 + (8-10)x + (8*-10)
= x^2 - 2x - 80
