x + y = 5 -- equ.(1)

x - y = 3 -- equ.(2)

By elimination method

+y and -y gets cancelled

2x = 8

x = 8/2

x = 4

Substituting x = 4 in equ.(1)

4 + y = 5

y = 5 - 4

y = 1

Thus , the values of x and y are 4 and 1 .

Step-by-step explanation:

x+y=5

x-y=3

now plus y and minus y get cancelled

so 2x=8

x=4

now place them in their values

4+y=5

4-y=3

so

y value is 1
