Hi ,

It is given that ,

2/y + 2/x = 1/3

multiply each term with xy , we get

2y + 2x = xy/3

=> 3 ( 2y + 2x ) = xy

=> 6y + 6x= xy

Degree of the equation is 2

Therefore ,

It is not a linear equation in two variables.

I hope this helps you.

Variable are the values which are unknown to us. In short, variables are the unknown numbers such as alphabets. Only the terms which are unknown, will be counted in variables and numeric values cannot be included in variable as number are not unknown terms.

2 / y + 2 / x = 1 / 3

2{ 1 / y + 1 / x } = 1 / 3

2{ ( y + x ) } / xy = 1 / 3

3[ 2{ y + x } ] = xy ( 1 )

3[ 2y + 2x ] = xy

6y + 6x = xy

Given equation : 6x + 6y = xy

In the given equation,

Terms used ; 6y , 6x and xy

Values of the terms 6x , 6y and xy is not given or unknown to us , so 6x , 6y and xy are also variables used in the given equation. As there are three variables { x , y and xy } , given equation is not a linear equation in two variables.
