x + 2 = 3y + 14

x = 3y + 12

Equating both values of x, we get:

5y  -  12 = 3y + 12

5y - 3y = 12 + 8

2y =20

y = 10

Applying the value of y to any x equation, like follows, we get:

x = 3(10) + 12

x = 30 + 12

x = 42
