Let the father’s age be F, now, and that of the Son S, now.

F-2 =3(S-2)^2 =3(S^2 -4S+4) = 3S^2 -12S+12,or

F = 3S^2 -12S+14 …(1)

F+3 =4(S+3) = 4S + 12, or

F = 4S+9 …(2)

Equating Fs from (1) and (2)

3S^2 -12S+14 = 4S+9

3S^2 -12S+14 -4S -9 =0

3S^2 -16S+5 =0

3S^2 -15S - S +5 =0

3S(S-5) -(S-5) = 0

(3S-1)(S-5) = 0

S = 1/3 or 5

F =4x5 + 9 = 29

The Father is 29 and the Son 5 years now
