Answer :

(a) y = 10x + 2

(b) Rs 102

(a) Solution :

Let x be the total distance travelled and y be the total taxi charge .

• Fixed charge for 1st km is Rs 12 .

• Remaining distance after covering 1 km will be (x - 1) km .

• Taxi charge for further distance after covering 1 km is Rs 10 per km .

Thus ,

Total taxi charge will be given as ;

=> Total charge = Charge for 1st km + Charge for further distance

=> y = 12 + 10(x - 1)

=> y = 12 + 10x - 10

=> y = 10x + 2

(b) Solution :

If the total distance travelled is 10 km ie. x=10 , then the total taxi charge will be ;

=> y = 10x + 2

=> y = 10•10 + 2

=> y = 100 + 2

=> y = 102
