20. It is 260 km from Patna to Ranchi by air and 320 km by road. An aeroplane take
minutes to go from Patna to Ranchi where as a deluxe bus takes 8 hours.

Distance from Patna to Ranchi =260km

Time taken =30min=30/60=0.5hrs

Average speed= Total distance/ Time

=260/0.5

=2600/5=520 km/hr

b) Average speed of bus:

Distance =320km

time=8hrs

Average speed = Total distance/ time

=320/8=40 km/hr

c) Average velocity of Plane :

Average velocity= Displacement/time

Displacement of plane =260 km[ ∵ it is straight path]

Displacement of plane=260/0.5=520 km/hr and direction is from Patna to Ranchi straight.

d) Average velocity of bus=260/8=32.5km/hr and direction is from Patna to Ranchi straight.
