ead the passage given below.

When the word 'salsa' is mentioned, people think of a delicious dip;
but salsa is also a dance and musical style which is considered
to be a combination of Latin and Afro-Caribbean dances. Thus
the dance form is very popular in Latin America, though in
recent times, the dance has also gained popularity in Europe
and Asia.
2
The dance had first started in the 1900s in Eastern Cuba, with
the combination of musical elements and rhythms from various
styles. The Cuban Son and Afro-Cuban rumba, forms of dancing
were the two main styles used in samba, and combining it with
diverse musical instruments to create the basis of a rhythm,
later became known as Salsa.
3
But the dance was still confined to its place of origin. Almost 50 years
went by before this new rhythm had reached Havana. There,
salsa absorbed influences from indigenous Cuban music and from
American jazz and continued to evolve. When the Revolution in
Cuba gained momentum, many musicians migrated to the United
States and to New York City in particular. There, salsa dancers
found favour among the Hispanic community, particularly in
'El Barrio' which is the name given to the Spanish neighbourhood
of New York.
4
But the most definitive rise to fame for salsa came about, thanks to
Fania Records, a record label established in 1964, by musician
Johnny Pacheco and Italian-American lawyer Jerry Masucci.
