Given:

20% of a number when added to 36% of another number it gives the 30% of sum of the two numbers

And the bigger number is 20 more than the smaller one

Solution:

Let the smaller number be  'x'

Then the bigger number is 'x+20'

According to the given conditions,

\frac{20}{100}x+\frac{36}{100}(x+20)  =\frac{30}{100}(x+x+20)

\frac{x}{5}+\frac{9}{25}x+\frac{9}{25}(20)=\frac{30}{100}(2x)+\frac{30}{100}(20)

\frac{5x+9x}{25}+\frac{36}{5}=\frac{6x}{10}+6

\frac{14x}{25} -\frac{6x}{10}=6-\frac{36}{5}

\frac{28x-30x}{50}=\frac{30-36}{5}

\frac{-2x}{50}=\frac{-6}{5}

x=30

And x+20=30+20=50

∴ The smaller number is 30 and the bigger number is 50
